El apoyo social (AS) y la integración en el barrio (IB) son temas poco estudiados en Guatemala y pueden relacionarse con la forma en que los adolescentes enfrentan los eventos estresantes (EE). En general, el AS incluye diferentes tipos de respaldos, entre ellos, el emocional, el instrumental y la información que se obtiene a través de familiares, amigos o la comunidad. Por lo tanto, resulta fundamental comprender el comportamiento de estas variables en términos de relaciones y diferencias con variables sociodemográficas. En este proyecto se aprueba la hipótesis de que el apoyo social y la integración en el barrio son factores protectores ante los eventos estresantes; la investigación se llevó a cabo con una muestra de 1098 adolescentes del municipio de Chiquimula. La investigación fue cuantitativa, transversal de tipo descriptiva y se recolectó la información colectivamente, de manera presencial y en formato electrónico, descrita a través de tres escalas estandarizadas de autorreporte. Para el análisis de las propiedades psicométricas se validó el cuestionario según la escala Alfa de Cronbach, ubicándolo en la escala de confiabilidad “muy alto”. Los resultados de esta investigación indican la importancia del apoyo social y la integración en el barrio como factores fundamentales para el manejo del estrés en adolescentes del municipio de Chiquimula. Con ello, se afirma que los adolescentes que cuentan con un alto nivel de apoyo social y una fuerte integración con su comunidad, muestran una mayor capacidad para gestionar el estrés de manera efectiva.

Social support (SA) and integration in the neighborhood (IB) are topics little studied in Guatemala and can be related to the way in which adolescents cope with stressful events (EE). In general, SA includes different types of support, including emotional, instrumental, and information obtained through family, friends, or the community. Therefore, it is essential to understand the behavior of these variables in terms of relationships and differences with sociodemographic variables. In this project, the hypothesis that social support and integration in the neighborhood are protective factors against stressful events is approved. The research was carried out with a sample of 1,098 adolescents from the urban area of the municipality of Chiquimula. The research was quantitative, transversal with a predictive scope and the information was collected collectively, in person and in electronic format, described through three standardized self-report scales. For the analysis of psychometric properties, the questionnaire was validated according to Cronbach's Alpha scale, placing it on the “very high” reliability scale. The results of this research indicate the importance of social support and integration in the neighborhood as fundamental factors for managing stress in adolescents in the municipality of Chiquimula. With this, it is stated that adolescents who have a high level of social support and strong integration with their community show a greater ability to manage stress effectively.
